Team Update
Eric’s BBQ team competition in Albany, OR was a huge success! His team finished fifth place in Ribs, Chicken, and People’s Choice! They would have won the People’s Choice but ran out of our pork belly burnt end sliders in 45 minutes. Coming up in May will be the most important event, as he is currently planning his wife’s milestone birthday party!
For Sarah and Peter, 2022 began with returning from treasured time with Peter’s family in Maine for Christmas. Sarah has otherwise been deep in her Certificate in Financial Planning studies, but has enjoyed breaks such as spending a weekend in Hood River and cheering Peter’s McKay choir students on as they competed in their first ICHSA (International Championship of High School A Cappella) competition.
In February, Katherine’s oldest son, Josh, visited from Southern California for a few days. During their time together, they accomplished several “heavy lifting/mother do” tasks, successfully experimented with making “clear ice” at home using upcycled yogurt containers, and enjoyed the Broadway version of Anastasia at the Keller Auditorium. It was a very, very sweet time. Also, about the time this is going to print, Katherine and Quill will be experiencing their first attempt at the Therapy Dog Team test. We will provide an update next quarter.
Daughter Jenna, son Eric, and daughter-in-law Ivy were with Larry and Laurie over the holidays. Much food, wine, cards, and boards games were enjoyed by all. Laurie is getting ready for her first pickleball tournament and she will be singing “Have a Drink on Me” by AC/DC for her River City Rock Academy final this term. Larry is enjoying the change from winter to spring by getting back out on the golf course.
Out and About
February provided us with the opportunity to support and attend the Rotary Club of Salem’s GoodWorks Event as this year’s title sponsor. For 2022, the Rotary Club’s GoodWorks committee has awarded a grant for a new play area at the Gilbert House Children’s Museum, with smaller grants benefiting initiatives such as new mattresses for the Center for Hope & Safety, tuition assistance for Capital Futbol Club and Salem Youth Symphony, support for the Salem Public Library Foundation’s “Book4Kids” literacy outreach program, among others.
Sarah enjoyed representing our team at the McKay Chamber Orchestra’s performance of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons at the Elsinore Theater, for which we were a program sponsor. It featured guest artist Hal Grossman, Professor of Violin at the University of Oregon, and benefitted McKay High School’s Music Program (orchestra, band, and choir).
