Team Update
Eric and Amy were on the road again for BBQ competitions. First stop was Sweet Home, OR for the Icebox BBQ Competition. They were pleased to bring home some hardware in the Steak categories, placing fourth and tenth respectively. They also placed eighth in People’s Choice and 23rd overall out of 39 teams. Next stop was Dupont, WA for the Hudson Bay Heritage Festival BBQ Contest, where they received ninth place in Chicken and 24th overall out of 31 teams. They hope to break into the overall top ten next year!
Sarah and Peter saw out the summer with a trip to Michigan and hosting more family members who traveled to Oregon. She is extremely thankful for the time working with and learning from this team and all of you reading this. While leaving is bittersweet, she is excited to soon be a little closer to family and looks forward to her next chapter in sharing the power of financial planning, with a new focus on serving teachers and their families.
Katherine and Quill enjoyed a very quiet (a.k.a. low canine anxiety) Fourth of July weekend in a tiny home just south of Waldport. Because they had such a lovely time, it may become an annual tradition. In addition to the work she does with Quill as a therapy dog team, Katherine regularly donates blood through the Downtown Rotary Club blood drives. She does this in memory of her father who passed away 38 years ago. During his working years, he gave blood every quarter. It is possible that he gave close to ten gallons of blood during his lifetime and saved many lives.
Larry and Laurie enjoyed the first week in July on a golf vacation to the Oregon Coast where they played various courses from Astoria to Lincoln City. They followed that up with a trip to Bend and Black Butte where they again played different golf courses and attended the wedding of their nephew, Sam, to his new wife, Vanessa. Somewhere between these trips, they played in a fundraiser for the Cleveland High School Alumni Association and of course made sure that they were able to spend time with grandson, Luka.
Out & About
The end of summer came with a get-together for our team and spouses, graciously hosted by Katherine, with Eric providing some of his delicious BBQ. In September, the Marion Polk Food Share held their annual Farm to Table Dinner & Auction, for which we were the Harvest Sponsor. Katherine and Sarah represented our firm at the event, this year held at the Oregon Garden. Funds raised support the Food Share’s mission of bringing people together to end hunger and its root causes.
Katherine traveled to Phoenix, AZ in late September to attend the Financial Planning Association’s (FPA) Annual Conference. There, she attended workshops ranging in topics from investments to retirement planning, to estate planning and others.
After almost five years with The H Group, Sarah will be leaving our team at the end of October to pursue a new direction with Teach Plan Retire, an advisory firm in Indianapolis focused on serving educators. With the opportunity to start that work remotely, she and Peter will finish out his teaching year here in Salem and plan to move to Indiana next summer. She is eager to stay engaged with the Salem and McKay High School communities until then.
