Team Update
Eric and his lovely wife, Amy, have reached a Paradigm shift in life: the transition to empty nest! One son is in college and the other in Japan Culinary School, so they decided to buy a travel trailer! They look forward to new adventures traveling to wineries, breweries, and most importantly, BBQ competitions.
After spending Christmas in Minnesota, Sarah got more snow time during a solo trip to Sunriver, during which she enjoyed snowshoeing and hiking. In the choir realm, McKay’s Scots-Appella won first place in their ICHSA West Quarterfinal (high school a cappella competition), so they next compete in the U.S. West Semifinal in Los Angeles in late March. Peter and his group have put in so much hard work, and Sarah can’t wait to chaperone and cheer them on!
Katherine is enjoying her subscription to Broadway in Portland seeing one play per month. Moulin Rouge was a terrific performance. The first months of the year also brought a time to connect with her mothers. In January, she spent a weekend with her mom at her new home in Grants Pass. Then, in February, she spent a few days visiting her mother-in-law in Boise. While in Boise, she took the opportunity to visit with some clients who live in the area.
Larry and Laurie have had a fabulous first quarter. After an always hectic January, things settled down and they were able to enjoy a trip to Hawaii that they had purchased at the Marion Polk Food Share charity auction. Highlights included spending 1 ½ days at the Pearl Harbor Memorial, visiting the most southern point of the United States, enjoying a couple rounds of golf, and just chilling by the pool. They got back in time for Laurie to host a baby shower for their son Eric and daughter-in-law Ivy. Their first grandchild is expected in early April.
Out and About
The first charity event of 2023 for our team came not long after the new year, in the form of the Rotary Club of Salem’s GoodWorks Auction. Larry and Sarah attended, representing our firm as one of the Title Sponsors. The funds raised at this annual event benefit various nonprofits and community efforts in Salem, with this year’s Large Grant recipient being the Capital Fútbol club and their campaign to build an indoor soccer field at Pioneer Sports Park, their home field in East Salem.
On an individual level, and through her involvement with Paws for Love Therapy Dogs, Inc., Katherine and her Sheepadoodle, Quill, have been volunteering at the Salem Library’s Read to a Pet program. Quill is a big hit with young readers and adults. They are also part of a group that is visiting CPA firms to provide a bit of therapy during the hectic tax season.
Larry and Katherine are both members of the Willamette Valley Estate Planning Council, and as meetings have moved back to in-person, they and Sarah have enjoyed attending again, to gain further education and insight on topics ranging from tax law to estate planning considerations for business owners.
