Team Update
For Eric, it has been a whirlwind of celebrating and organizing milestone birthdays for his wife and mother-in-law. The whirlwind continued with his son graduating from high school, so the family attended his last symphony band concert and graduation ceremony, then organized his graduation party. Still the whirlwind doesn’t stop there, as Eric has been practicing BBQing for a big competition in the first weekend of July!
Sarah and Peter’s spring has been filled with concerts and competitions for Peter’s choir students, plus Sarah got to sing in choir again, with St. Paul’s Chamber Singers. She recently finished the coursework for and earned her Certificate in Financial Planning from Bryant University, so now has the July CFP® exam in her sights. About when you read this, she will be celebrating with her family in Colorado as her younger brother, Ben, gets married!
Katherine is pleased to write that, in March, Quill and she passed their therapy dog team test. Granted, they passed without flying colors but, in their defense, the test was pretty crazy. This spring also brought a change to Katherine’s home life with her 91-year-old mother moving in with her. This happened a bit sooner than expected but, since the move, her mom is doing better.
It was definitely a busy quarter for Larry. He and Laurie went to Puebla Mexico to celebrate Eric and Ivy’s wedding with Ivy’s family and friends. They then went to Walla Walla for wine tasting and a friend’s 60th birthday celebration. Shortly after returning, Larry and Katherine did their annual Bend/central Oregon trip to see clients. Larry reports that he is looking forward to a slower paced summer with more time for golfing and BBQ.
Out and About
These last three months provided many more opportunities to be out and about. The main event for our full team was attending the Willamette Heritage Center’s Garden Party Gala as the Presenting Sponsor. It took place in April after being rescheduled from last fall. The funds raised will go to support multiple update projects WHC has for their historical buildings.

Rotary provided Katherine with the opportunity to lend her hands to a landscaping project at the Gilbert House Children’s Museum. Eric volunteered some of his time to give a presentation to two elementary school classrooms about the history of the Japanese Internment Camps and his grandfather’s Congressional Gold Medal, for his service interpreting Japanese communications during World War II. Also related to schools, Sarah got to be a chaperone for the McKay Scots-Appella’s day spent participating in workshops and competing in the annual Rose City Sing-Off in Portland. She was happy to cheer on the a cappella group as they took home third place plus awards for best soloist and best choreography.

Finally, Katherine and Sarah traveled to attend the Financial Planning Association’s (FPA) NorCal Conference in San Francisco, which, like most of the events listed above, was canceled or virtual the past couple of years. It was Sarah’s first time attending, and they both appreciated the many learning opportunities provided by the varied conference speakers and sessions.
