Over the weekend, Brenna and I spent a part of our morning taking “Steps to Safety.” This was the name of the walk/run event hosted by the Center for Hope and Safety on Saturday morning. Part fundraiser, part awareness-builder, part health-and-wellness focuser, the event worked to highlight the important work that they do in our community. As we did in 2017, we were proud to again show up as sponsors and participants.
The center provides services that are – unfortunately – vital to our community. Survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking can utilize any of their services, including:
- A 24-hour advocacy, safety planning and shelter screening every day of the week.
- A shelter home for those who need immediate safety and refuge.
- Ongoing advocacy and support.
They have been providing these important services to the Salem community for over 40 years. As you can imagine, their partnership with the police department runs deep. So deep, in fact, that the event was held at the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training facility in Southeast Salem. This was a unique opportunity for participants to get a glimpse inside the facility – otherwise closed to the public.
