Congratulations, Sarah, CFP®!
We are happy to share that Sarah has officially obtained her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM certification! On top of her regular workload, the road to earning the CFP® mark after her name started in fall 2021 with taking the coursework for and completing a Certificate in Financial Planning from Bryant University, passing the six-hour CFP® exam in July 2022, finishing 6,000 hours of experience through the FPA Residency and her role in our firm, and signing the CFP Board’s Ethics Declaration. Join us in congratulating her on this important milestone and transition into being a Financial Planner for our team!
Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board) owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, and CFP® (with plaque design) in the United States, which it authorizes use of by individuals who successfully complete CFP Board’s initial and ongoing certification requirements.
Team Update
This past quarter has been a learning experience for Eric and Amy with their new travel trailer: planning a trip, how to pack, what buttons to push, manuals to read (but who really reads them?), and the toughest of them all, BACKING UP a trailer! If there was a YouTube video of Eric backing up a trailer, it would provide some sort of comic relief. They look forward to next quarter’s adventure at a BBQ Competition with the new trailer!
In addition to choir travels (see “Out & About”), Sarah and Peter were happy to host plus travel with multiple family members this spring, including to Vancouver, BC with Peter’s youngest brother and to Bend with two of his sisters, who all visited from out of state.
Katherine has been enjoying spring. For her birthday, Sarah and Eric gave her a gift certificate to a local floral farmer. With it, she spent a morning with nine others learning the “how to” and “when to” for growing a cutting garden. Granted, Katherine had to convert an acre to a square foot to have the lessons fit the size of her small yard. She also signed up for a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm to support local growers and to have fun with locally-grown, organic produce. She is a bit scared for when egg plants are in season, so any favorite recipes are appreciated.
On April 9th, Larry and Laurie welcomed the birth of their first grandchild, Luka Laurence Hanslits. Everybody is healthy and happy. Luka is also the first great-grandchild for Larry’s mom and dad, Mike and Sally. Additionally, L&L played in a couple of charitable golf tournaments and Laurie performed Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” at Make Music Salem, for which she received raving reviews.
Out and About
Spring brought with it three charity events that our team had the pleasure of sponsoring. In April, we were the Presenting Sponsor for the Willamette Heritage Center’s Spring Gala, where the funds raised went to continue the Center’s mission in preserving the stories of our area. In May, we were a Gold Sponsor for the Liberty House’s Cherish the Children MegaRaffle, supporting their services for children and families facing concerns of abuse, neglect, trauma, or grief. Then in June, we were a Rhythm Sponsor for Make Music Day Salem, which annually celebrates and showcases musicians in various locations around the city on June 21st, the longest day of the year.
Additionally, Larry attended the Salem Leadership Foundation’s Fancy Friday lunch fundraiser, plus Larry and Laurie raised funds for both the Sprague High School Athletics program and the Boys & Girls Club of Western Lane County through their respective charitable golf tournaments.
Sarah chaperoned multiple McKay High School Choir trips with her husband, Peter, and his choir students: one to Seattle with the 52 students in Concert Choir and two long-distance trips with the 19 students in Scots-Appella, McKay’s contemporary a cappella group. As an update from last quarter, and as you may have seen in the local news, after Scots-Appella won the ICHSA Quarterfinal high school a cappella competition in Oregon, they traveled to Los Angeles and placed 2nd at the ICHSA West Semifinal, then placed 1st in the virtual Wild Card round, and ultimately traveled to New York City in May for the ICHSA Finals, where they won 2nd place in the nation!
On the professional front, Larry and Katherine spent a few days in Bend in June to meet with client families in the area, and Sarah spent an intensive week in Denver, CO for the Financial Planning Association (FPA) Residency, where she and 23 other aspiring and newly-certified CFP® professionals practiced the art of financial planning.
