Team Update
Eric’s last BBQ competition for the year is December 31st, for Ribeye steak and “anything sliders.” But more importantly, he and Amy will be spending the holidays with their boys before their empty nest approaches in mid-January. The oldest is heading back to Oregon State University and the youngest is pursuing Culinary in Japan. On the horizon is possibly a new RV and more adventures in 2023! Happy Holidays!
Sarah and Peter saw out the sunny fall with a hike in the Tillamook Forest, a Cory Wong concert in Portland, and visits to some beautiful wineries with various friends. As the rains came, their recent highlight was visiting Peter’s dad’s extended family in Texas to celebrate Thanksgiving and Peter’s grandpa’s 90th birthday. They look forward to spending Christmas with Sarah’s family in Minnesota and wish you and your loved ones a happy holiday season!
Katherine has been busy reclaiming the main bedroom suite of her home now that her mom has moved to Southern Oregon. When not painting bedroom walls, frustratingly installing a ceiling fan, and being overwhelmed with selecting a new mattress, she and Quill have been getting in a bit of Geocaching. Unfortunately, Quill is not yet Chill Quill because he has a way of drawing the attention of “muggles.” Though she has to remember, it is not his fault that he is 80 pounds of cuteness!
Continuing education was the theme of Larry’s fall. He virtually attended the Washington 67th Annual Estate Planning Seminar, the Financial Planning Association of Oregon and SW Washington’s year-end conference, and then went to Seattle with Katherine to attend the national Financial Planning Association three-day annual conference. While in Seattle, Larry and Katherine took the opportunity to visit with clients who live in that neck of the woods.
Out and About
Our team enjoyed supporting a couple nonprofits by sponsoring and attending their recent events. In November, we each decked ourselves out in our favorite Beaver or Duck gear to cheer on the Boys & Girls Club of Salem, Marion and Polk Counties at their annual Duck vs. Beaver-themed Rivalry Auction, including supporting them as one of the Home Team Sponsors. The event raises funds equivalent to the needs of one of their eight branches in Salem/Keizer that provides after-school programming for kids.
In December, our firm was a Platinum Sponsor for Liberty House’s Holiday Soirée. Larry, Katherine, and Sarah had the pleasure to attend the event, which featured lights and festive decorations, a lively band, and a heartfelt message from their Executive Director. Proceeds from the event support the Liberty House’s work in the assessment, treatment, and prevention of child abuse, neglect, and trauma.
Sarah volunteered for McKay High School’s choir program by leading a soprano/alto sectional and chaperoning a couple trips, one with the a cappella group to sing carols around the Silverton Christmas Market and another one watching the larger McKay Concert Choir perform in Portland at The Grotto’s annual Christmas Festival of Lights.
The Financial Planning Association (FPA) provided some great opportunities for further education. Larry and Sarah traveled up to Portland for a half-day seminar to hear sessions on estate planning law changes and the Oregon PERS system, then in mid-December, Larry and Katherine participated in FPA’s three-day Annual Conference, which was held in Seattle this year.
