And a good time was had by all! Last Saturday, our whole team gathered at the Salem Convention Center to support The Salem Rotary Foundation. The annual GoodWorks Auction hosted by our club raises money for the foundation to support local and international initiatives. Locally we’ve helped build play grounds, provide dictionaries to every fourth grade student in the Salem-Keizer School District, supported the boys & girls club, homeless youth shelter, capital football club, and the list goes on and on. Internationally our clean water focus in Haiti, which – in partnership with other clubs and Rotary International – has built over 7 wells and 3 latrines in Hinche and the surrounding villages. This club is an important part of our firm with Brenna and myself as active members along with our recent retirees. Michelle plays a major role by volunteering her time to help secure auction items for the event.
This year, the focus of our fundraising efforts was on a project that will change the landscape of downtown Salem: The Gerry Frank Rotary Amphitheater. I serve as co-chair of the fundraising committee for the amphitheater because I truly believe the development of this project will be a gift to our community. With the largest attendance on record at this weekend’s event, it was wonderful to see so many others agree. We were honored to support our club as the title sponsor of the event and are encouraged to see the enthusiasm for this project grow. At this point, the amphitheater is projected to be complete in the Spring of 2020.
